Yasi Ghanbari and Richard The were meant to meet on 7/11/16, but Richard had to reschedule because he did not review the new hire paperwork he was meant to submit to Yasi in her role as Manager of Part-Time Faculty Affairs at Parsons School of Design. So instead they met on 7/13/16, but Yasi was late to the meeting. It was a rocky start.
Richard had a German passport, Yasi noticed. How interesting, she said, as she was going to Berlin that summer. You have to meet my friend Gunnar so he can show you around, Richard said. Wow, is this guy into me? She wondered.
The story then diverges depending on who you are asking. But truthfully, Yasi thought she made the connection up in her head and deleted the email chain between them. Years later, Richard still finds this very brash behavior.
Also truthfully, Richard emailed Yasi on 12/13/16 and pointed-out to Yasi that they never got to talk about her thoughts on Berlin. Should we talk about it? Over coffee? So on 12/20/16 they had their first date at Irving Coffee. But nearly 8 years later, Richard still contests that it was a date. It was just “coffee.” We all know what coffee means.
In those 8 years, they have done quite some adventuring and made nice collaborative choices together. They’ve visited 7 countries, and maybe have been to the Venice Biennale too many times. They became obsessed with climbing and then running (maybe R more than Y) then hut-to-hut hiking. They’ve seen a lot of art and made some too. They even moved to Brooklyn.
After much urging, Richard proposed to Yasi on the Ides of March. An auspicious choice! It was in the cactus garden at the Getty and it was a wonderful surprise and they both cried a lot!
Funny retelling aside, we are so looking forward to celebrating our wedding with our loved ones and hope you can make it to NYC next June to watch us cry even more.

Cocktail attire please : ) A semi-formal dress code typically worn to evening social events. The look should be elegant and polished, but not as formal as black-tie attire.
